Rural Property Investment Index Results

Farmland property has again outperformed the commercial markets according to results announced by the IPD Rural Property Investment Index which is sponsored by Smiths Gore and Carter Jonas.

The index measures the performance of farm land and rural property.

Capital value growth is once again cited as the main driver of total return performance. In 2009 the total return stood at 8.2%, an improvement on the 2008 result of 1.7%.

Capital values are expected to rise in both the rural investment and vacant possession markets.
