Woodfuel boiler awareness is generally poor in the UK. In order to increase awareness and stimulate interest in this sector, Smiths Gore was commissioned to deliver four woodfuel boiler training events to stimulate demand for woodfuels and renewable heat in the East Midlands region. These events were funded by the Forestry Commission, East Midlands and EMDA.
Our senior sustainability consultant, Lee Evans, hosted four practical day long workshops taking delegates through the decision making process of installing a woodfuel boiler.
Events were held throughout the region, namely at Markham Vale Environment Centre, Chesterfield, Alma Park Business & Conference Centre, Lutterworth, Hexgreave Hall Estate, Farnsfield and the Newark Beacon, Newark. These free events were specifically aimed at estates, businesses and public sector organisations contemplating the installation of wood fuelled energy systems.
Delegates were able to observe woodfuel systems in operation and talk to the installation owner or manager. Detailed delegate information packs were developed containing:
- Notes from the workshops
- Details of boiler applications, environmental savings and financial feasibility
- Case studies
- Details of installers and woodfuel suppliers in the East Midlands
The events received over 72 delegates and feedback was excellent. Delegate ratings averaged over nine out of ten and testimonials included:
‘I don’t normally give 10's but this was an excellent event which simply delivered what it set out to deliver - well done!’
‘Very well presented and good research and experience demonstrated’.
‘As EST advice centre manager I would be keen to cooperate at facilitating similar events’.
‘Excellent event as introduction to woodfuel options’.
‘The event provided an excellent amount of information in a very accessible manner’.
‘Excellent, friendly and informative’.
